Blue Springs School District Board of Education

The Board of Education is an elected group of seven individuals who dutifully serve the Blue Springs School District and its constituency. In 2005 the Blue Springs Board of Education was named Missouri’s Outstanding Board of Education by the Missouri School Boards’ Association, and in 2011, they were runners up to that award.  These seven members also serve as the Governing Board of the Blue Springs Education Foundation.

Rhonda Gilstrap, President

Rhonda Gilstrap is serving her seventh year on the board.  She has four children and has been an active parent in the district, formerly serving as the district’s PTA Council president for a two-year term and as chairperson of the Citizens’ Advisory Committee.

Dale Falck, Treasurer

Dale Falck works for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and is part owner of MDDK Homes LLC. Technology and finance are his passions integrated into serving the community and helping others. He belongs to several professional councils and volunteers on several local committees. He believes in mentoring our young people with over 15 years experience with different non-profit organizations. He is married with two adult children, graduates of BSSHS, and one child currently attending BSSD. This is his fourth year as a board member.

Dave Wright

Dave Wright works as Chief of Financial Operations for the USDA’s Risk Management Agency. He has one daughter, Lauren, who graduated in 2010. Dave is very active in the community, serving on several foundations, boards, and committees related to children, education, health, community engagement, and philanthropy. This is his 10th year on the board. Dave is the Immediate Past Board President. Dave also currently serves as President of the Missouri School Boards Association and as Chairman of the Missouri Education Roundtable.

Kent Bradford

Kent Bradford is a director with Hubwoo USA, LP and has served on various community and professional organizations’ boards.  He has two daughters who graduated from the Blue Springs School District.  Kent is serving his 11th year on the board.

Dale Walkup, Vice-President

Dale Walkup and his wife operate Luckytime Dog and Car Wash in Blue Springs and are Partners in Destination Unlimited Travel. He formerly managed Wal-Mart and Sam’s Wholesale Club. He has three daughters who graduated from the Blue Springs School District and five grandchildren.  Dale has been involved in several community organizations. He is serving his 18th year on the board.

Kay Coen

Kay Coen is a retired teacher and the newest board member.  She spent 27 years as a library/media specialist at Blue Springs High School before retiring in 1997.  She has two children, Vicki and Travis, both graduates of Blue Springs High School. Kay begins her first term on the board on September 26, replacing her husband, Jim, who passed away in August of 2011.   She remains an active volunteer for many of the activities in the school district.

Jennifer Casey

Jennifer Casey is serving her second year on the board. She has worked as a parent leader and advocate for children for many years at the local and state level. She currently serves as Vice President and Director of Programs for Missouri PTA. She is involved with a variety of volunteer organizations in our community. Jennifer and her husband have one daughter in the Blue Springs School District
